The program of this year’s excursion to Frankfurt comprised diverse topics ranging from digital fabrication to high-rise architecture and structural engineering as well as art and computation.
The MCDC class spent one day at the EuroMold 2014 – the worldwide leading trade fair for digital fabrication, design and application development. The entire process chain from design to prototyping to series production was presented by various industries, showing the latest advances in additive and subtractive manufacturing as well as 3D-scanning and engineering software development.
Like last year Prof. Dr. Klaus Bollinger gave an insight in the work of his office Bollinger+Grohmann, one of the leading structural engineering offices worldwide.
As for our second office appointment, Martin Manegold gave a presentation about recent projects of his studio Imagine Computation. Furthermore, we had the chance to discuss programming strategies of the MCDC projects with him.
The visit to the Städel Museum (by Frankfurt-based office Schneider+Schumacher) with its infamous art collection and the German Architecture Museum (by Oswald Matthias Ungers) with a focus on high-rise architecture rounded-off our two-day trip to Frankfurt.
